Hello, readers. How are you today? I wanted to pick your brain for a second. Is that okay?
This blog is named after our beloved dog, Lucy. Here she is:
She is the best dog ever, except for that time she ate an entire diaper.
I first created Lucyshouse about 4 years ago to entertain Dave and myself with Lucy’s musings of life in our house. Since I barely have time for a phone call these days, I apparently had a LOT more time on my hands back then. But, you know, I do what I can to entertain myself. At some point it became our family blog, and then a blog about faith, and then a blog about (our second of) homeschooling, and then a blog about being real about autism. You know, just basically our family’s journey through these last few years.
Not to sound morbid, but Lucy is getting old. She 10. I think the name is cute now, but wouldn’t it be weird to have a blog named after your deceased dog? Plus, at times there has been some confusion and people think I am Lucy. This wouldn’t matter much except for those post’s in which I talk about Lucy having a third nipple. I mean, that’s really awkward, right?
So I’m considering starting up a new blog, but wanted your thoughts first. Would you mind a couple of questions? It would really help me out and let me know what you, the readers! really care about in regards to this little blog!
Please expand in the comments on the blog, or on the polls comments, if you want to keep it anonymous. (I’m pretty sure there’s a space for that.)
I don’t think they will show up in the reader, so you’ll have come to the site to do it. (They are below.) Thanks so much! ![]()

OMG! I typed up a whole answer for you (which was very whitty, I might add) and it glitched on me. Boo!! I am too lazy to try to recreate it so I’ll give you the run down and do your polls. I’m not sure I was all that helpful anyway. I’m pretty sure you would have been like, “hey, Kerri, can you vague that up for me?”
I love the name lucyshouse but totally understand how it would eventually end up being weird. Can you just change the name of the blog but keep the domain so people don’t have to resubscribe? I’ve seen a lot of blogs that do that, although I do realize it may be confusing if (when) they try to pimp you out and your name doesn’t match the web address. Either way I’m stalking you where ever you go or whatever you do so good luck trying to get rid of me by getting a new domain. =P
Okay, I lied. Polls never give answer I’m comfortable committing to.
I say write what you want to write about. Should it be an obsession with third nipples, then so be it. If you have a period of family stuff, great! If you have a time when you want to vent or educate about Autism, well that works too. The way I feel about blogs is it is all about the author and, for me, the more personalized it is the more engaged I am. I like knowing there is a real live person with real live emotions behind the words I read. If I wanted an impersonal & unrelatable read I’d pick up a magazine like Vogue or Us Weekly.
Oh, and BTW…math is a dirty word. So is the phrase Justin Bieber.
OMG this was hilarious. I’m crushin’ on you right now.
I, like Kerri, will follow you wherever you go. Frankly, it’s a first world problem to complain about having to update a web address in my blog reader. I mean, come on, people. Seriously?
I dunno, I think you need to have a little post about bieber fever
I know I would be smiling reading about how much you heart the subject…ha!
I think you should do whatever you want to do. If the idea of a dead dog blog is creepy to you, change it. If it is a sweet tribute, keep it. I will change my Reader to suit your needs. I am just that accommodating. I know, I am amazing, aren’t I?
On the polls:
I chose whatever for the name, because I think you should go with whatever is the right fit for you, regardless to what others think. I have no problem re-subbing to a new site, so do whatever fits best for you.
I chose autism in the second poll, but that’s not really the big picture. I came to your blog because you are an autism mama. I stayed because you are an autism mama writing about more than just autism. Our faith is similar (from what I’ve read so far anyway) and I enjoy reading especially about autism when it intersects with faith…I haven’t found too many blogs that write about that from a viewpoint similar to my own. I also like blogs that share snippets of family life that are not always focused on autism, it’s part of life, it impacts all of life, but it doesn’t define all of life. I think you should feel free to write about whatever you want and not feel pigeonholed into one category based on your readers.
I chose math on the last poll, but it was a toss up with Justin Bieber. I don’t mind posts about him, but I’ll skip them probably because I know nothing about him beyond a basic idea. I wouldn’t know him if I bumped into him at the mall. Yes, I live in a cave. Math gives me the hives. We homeschool and it’s the one subject that I loathe teaching. Figures I’d end up with four boys that are very math minded, two of which love math.
more third nipple posts please
oh my gosh, you guys are so funny. LOL
I’m so glad I asked – You’ve given me some good stuff to chew on! I’ve read stuff about building a blog and it’s so much about being focused on one, but I’m not sure I have that in me. I tend to get bored easily in hobbies, etc… and I think it shows itself here, too. I kind of bounce around – land on one for awhile and then bounce to another. Just rolling with whatever life is at the time. If that works for you, that works for me.
One thing is for certain. The third nipple has been seriously neglected. I’ll have to do something about that.
Thanks, guys!
I voted for keeping up with the family but third nipple was a close second! Haha!
